The purpose of the project was to develop an approach for a computer to recognise what was seen on a game board of checkers by a video camera. By analysing the board and the position of the pieces, the computer was to be able to then play as an opponent to the human player. When it was the computer player’s turn, it would instruct the player in what move it wanted to make.
