Committee member: chairman, reviewers, member, secretary
- Definition of possible formats
- Personal presence: Everyone is present in person.
- Hybrid: One or more members of the committee join online, but the audience and the candidate are present in person.
- Online: In that case, the defense takes place completely online.
- Selecting the format
- All external committee members should be asked if they can be present in person (personal participation is preferred, but online participation is also accepted).
- Internal members participate in person.
- The candidate also participates in person, except in cases requiring special consideration (e.g. a foreigner who no longer resides in Hungary, a health problem, etc.). If the candidate can only participate online, it is possible to request the fully online format from the doctoral school.
- Scheduling the date and time
- The chosen date must be suitable for all committee members without exception. It is worth keeping some evidence of this (email, doodle, etc.) to clear up possible misunderstandings later.
- It is important that the chosen location must also be free, which can be a bottleneck, especially in the case of a hybrid format. Therefore, it is worth finding out in advance about the availability of the rooms (see below).
- Choosing a location (this no longer needs to be agreed with the committee!)
- Personal presence: It can be any suitable location, in the halls of the Institute of Informatics, TTIK, or SZAB. Common locations are room 6 in the basement (Árpád tér 2), the faculty council room, or one of the rooms of the SZAB headquarters. We highly recommend the SZAB headquarters.
- Hybrid: It is very important that in the case of a hybrid defense, the locations are much more limited due to the necessary technical conditions, it cannot be conducted everywhere under decent conditions. The options are:
- SZAB headquarters banquet room: here SZAB employees can create the technical conditions
- Riesz Hall, Bolyai Building. The appropriate conference technology is available here. It is an elegant room for 40 people, but its availability is limited as it is also for teaching.
- We cannot currently provide technical support at other locations!
- Online: typically Skype, but other options can be used if required. Who to look for? Once you have the format and the preferred location, you must request the location (also in the case of online) and the contact person's availability (if an external location, e.g. SZAB, Bolyai building, or faculty hall) at dscs@inf.u-szeged.hu.
